In Class: We started class with a brief tour of turnitin.com and then students signed up for turnitin using the following information:
After this process, students were given brief tours of some writing resources including OWL @ Purdue, Paper Rater, the Hemingway App, and SAS Curriculum Pathways. Purdue's OWL is a great source for MLA formatting details, while the other three resources provide a wealth of detail about your writing when you sign-up/enter in text.
Students were then given some time to peer review and revise their essays. For Home: Please revise your essays using at least one of the above mentioned tools and have a superior (sibling/parent, etc.) edit your paper for one final review. Please turn your essays in by Sunday at midnight to turnitin.com by clicking on my class, the assignment, and then changing the submission option (starts out in cut-and-paste) to upload a document. The option to upload from Google Docs will be at the bottom, along with a few others. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
In Class:
Students began with a warm-up considering the must-haves, likes, and definitely-nots of a career. The following instructions were given to complete this assignment: Now that you’ve had a chance to explore a few career options, take some time to determine specific and practical college (or technical school) options for these career paths. You should choose three colleges to explore (at least one out of state/community college/technical school), but you may choose one college to explore for a secondary choice career. Go to the University/College’s website and gather information on:
Be prepared to present a two-minute presentation on one of your chosen institutions to the class. For Home: Please complete any elements of your higher education research assignment you did not complete in class. In Class: Today students started with a Grammar Benchmark Assessment. We then discussed some college statistics and considerations when choosing a career path after watching this video from Mike Rowe. Then, students were asked to create some career profiles based off the data they collected from their surveys in our previous class. Please see the attached file for specific instructions on this assignment. For Home: None! We will finish up the career research piece in our next class.
For Home:
Please finish any surveys you didn't get to in class and then write a 1-2 paragraph reflection on your findings. Does your skills, interests, and career choices all jive? Any surprises? Did these surveys teach you anything new about your purpose or did they just confirm what you already knew? Explain. |
