In Class:
Today we had our second literature circles for 1984. For those who are discussion leaders, please remember to post your group's blog questions and your response for another group's blog post. At Home: Please begin reading pages 115-182 per the reading calendar.
In Class:
Today we began by viewing a TED talk about defending and shaping ideas, which then led into a mini lesson on fake news. We discussed how media trends of today relate to the world of 1984. From there, students were given time to read their texts to prepare for a lesson on Newspeak. For Home: Continue reading 1984 and have the Newspeak Appendix completed for next class period.
In Class: Today we discussed the value and purpose of the 2 Minutes of Hate, and then moved into introducing the literary circle roles. Then students gathered in their groups to fill out their designated worksheet. For Home: Finish up you worksheet if not done and continue the reading for 1984 per the calendar schedule.
Once you have submitted your notes, you are free to continue reading 1984. You are welcome to use your phone to listen to the audio (HINT: Consider speeding up the audio to 1.25 if you think the author reads too slow.)
For Home: Please be prepared to discuss the reading from 1984 on Thursday in your lit circles. You can find the groupings for these circles in the files above. The order of student's names will correspond to the order of the roles as indicated on the list. Each student will then rotate through the list as we continue with the lit circles week to week.
